Taking Good Headshot Pictures
A headshot is a staple of a photography portfolio. If you can capture a good headshot, then you are half way there when it comes to expanding your repertoire. Here are some tips for capturing good headshots:
- Use the right light. Headshots will be fairly close up and will need good light. If possible, take the photos on a sunny day or use a photography light. Just make sure the subject isn’t in shadow.
- Don’t overexpose. It can be easy to overexpose a headshot and make the person look pale and nondescript. Check on the light and exposure.
- Be careful about the glare on glasses. Get them from the correct angle so they don’t blur or reflect light back into the camera.
- Catch the person at the right moment. Make sure they look natural and give them direction to put them at ease and let them know what you want to achieve.
