Create the ‘Film Effect’ when Editing in Lightrooom

One thing with Lightroom is that the presets can tempt you and prevent you from working on your image from scratch. A well-chosen preset can work, but there are certain techniques to be learned, and the film effect is a popular option right now.

In Lightroom, the easiest way to get the theme effect is to play around with the tone curve. This is a very important tool, and it allows you to add anchor points and drag the tone curve. If you move the bottom left point up slightly, you’ll see blacks turn to a matte tone, but you don’t want to bend the line too much, otherwise you’ll lose the lighting that made your image look good in the first place.

If you play around with this tool in Lightroom, you’ll master it in no time, and it’s the easiest way to get that beautiful ‘film effect’ which is especially beautiful in portraits and scenic shots.
